Fact #1: As Men Get Older, Conception Might Get Harder

According to a study cited in the Daily Mail, male fertility declines with age, so, the older a man is, the harder it can be for him to become a father. However, it is important to note that this is a fairly limited study and cannot be taken as fact- yet. There are, of course, notable examples of senior parents in the news every year. Think Des O’Connor, Rod Stewart, and David Jason.

Fact #2: How Much You Weigh Can Matter for Conception

It is important to be at a healthy weight if you want to conceive. If you find that you are having difficulty getting pregnant, then this could be the reason. If you are underweight, particularly, this could be why you can’t conceive as easily as you would like. It is important not to be malnourished if you want to conceive, and if you want to then have a healthy pregnancy, and give birth to a healthy baby.

Fact #3: Just because you’re Healthy Doesn’t Automatically Mean you’re Fertile

And the same actually goes for your partner as well.  Of course, it is very important to be healthy if you want to get pregnant. But, even if you are healthy there can be other problems that arise and make it difficult to conceive. Age influences how fertile you are more than anything else. So as you get older, it is only natural that your fertility will decrease. Jenny, a fertility expert at IVI Fertility says “It is important to reach out for help in the way that you feel is best for you if you want to get pregnant but can’t. One option is in vitro fertilization. IVI and other assisted reproduction treatment services will provide you with the information and support that you need if you decide to make this choice.”

Fact #4: Despite What You May Have Learned, Ovulation May Not Be the Optimum Time to Conceive

That’s right! While it is important to try to conceive when you are ovulating, the days before and after actually matter as well. So, there is not just one day (the day you ovulate) when you are more likely to get pregnant. There are six days every month when you are most fertile. You should try to get pregnant during the five days before you ovulate, as well as on the day you ovulate.

Fact #5: Sexual Positions Don’t Matter For Conception

The position you have sex in is not important for getting pregnant, despite what you may have been led to believe. In addition, you can be in any position you want after sex – it is just a myth that a certain position will make it easier for conception to occur.

So, don’t believe everything you hear when you are trying to get pregnant. And, oh yeah, the Voodoo Doll can’t help you get pregnant- sorry!
